For the past two days, I had been unable to start my Focus. Trickle charged it overnight and it started right up today (my trip odometer had been reset to 0), but with the "Transmission malfunction service now" message on the dashboard. I drove it cautiously around the block in case it was a battery issue.

Well,a few days ago, I followed the owner manual post-battery-change routine (warm up, idlle, AC on, idle, etc.) but the idiot light for transmission fault AND lousy shifting persisted. I borrowed an OBD II fault scanner and noted 2 faults, one for heater resistance (0054) and another for transmission ECM/TCM (0606).
